Discover a hidden powder gem filled with rich, regional culture.

On this tour you will ski and ride the western Tien Shan Ranges. The region is famous for its intermittent snowfall and good weather. Due to its continental location far from the ocean, the snow is dry and stable, even on very steep slopes. The topography is extremely diverse - from slightly sloping clearings to aggressive gullies and long descents that can be over 2,000 vertical meters. Our local guides will make sure the descents are the best of your season, maybe even your life. We start and finish in Tashkent - the capital of Uzbekistan and also the largest city in Central Asia. In Tashkent, you can see both ancient monuments and modern mosques, stroll through colorful bazaars, learn about the history and culture in the capital's museums and, of course, relax in parks, restaurants or immerse yourself in the city's nightlife. Our base for the trip is in Chimgan, locally known as 'Uzbek Switzerland' for its high mountains and clear air. From here we drive to the resorts - Amirsoy, Chimgan and Beldersay. We will do a combination or resort riding, lift accessed backcountry and human powered ski touring / split boarding. We’ll keep the plan flexible and ride according to weather and avalanche conditions.

Our trip will conclude with a day of exploring Samarkand, a city built in an oasis in the valley of the Zarafshan River, southwest of Tashkent. With a history that spans over two and a half millennia and evidence of settlers dating back to as early as 1500 BC, Samarkand is one of the oldest cities in the world. The historic town is famous for being an important location on the Silk Road trading network, as well as a place of cultural, political and historical significance for Central Asia.

Area Information

Uzbekistan

Rich in history, culture and diversity, Uzbekistan is the most populated country in Central Asia with a variety of ethnic groups living with one another. It is a double landlocked country, and has been part of multiple empires, once being made the main center of the Silk Road and therefore the bridge between the east and west for over two millennia. We start and finish our adventure in Tashkent, the largest city of Central Asia and capital of Uzbekistan. Tashkent means ‘Stone Village’, and is recognised as the main economic and cultural hub of Central Asia, known for their research facilities and university, libraries and museums, theaters, colorful bazaars, as well as both ancient monuments and modern mosques. Listed as a World Heritage Site, the mountain range that decorates Uzbekistan is the Tien Shan Range; also known as Tengri Tagh which means the Mountains of Heaven. Due to its location and unique topography, this region is famous for its dry and stable snow, from sloped clearings to tight technical gullies and 6,500 vertical feet.
