Eldora Skiing & Snowboarding Resort Guide

Eldora Mountain Resort is a small, quaint ski and snowboard area located just outside of the city of Boulder. With 1,600’ of vertical, Eldora is a great option for skiers and snowboarders visiting Boulder, or those who want to avoid long drives up I-70 from the cities on the Front Range. While the 680 acres of skiable terrain is certainly small compared to most Colorado ski resorts, there is still some fun terrain for advanced skiers and snowboarders alike. The small resort not only creates a laid-back atmosphere, but also makes Eldora great for families and beginners, with a dedicated learning area, and a natural progression of terrain difficulty. Beginning in the 2016-2017 winter, Eldora will feature terrain parks built by industry leader Woodward.

Mountain Overview

Eldora Ski and Snowboard

The mountain itself has two main areas, the Little Hawk Family Area and the main area which is spread across three chairlifts. The Little Hawk Family Area has awesome beginner facilities, with 5 lifts that serve beginner and intermediate terrain.

Advanced skiers and snowboarders will want to head up the parallel Challenge and Cannonball chairlifts in order to get to the Indian Peaks lift. There is intermediate terrain here as well. Traversing through the trees into the top of Brain’s glades brings skiers and snowboarders to a fun natural halfpipe in the trees with lots of fun little jibs. On a powder day, it’s best to head all the way out to the Corona lift. Salto and Moose Glades have the steepest terrain at Eldora and some of the best powder skiing and snowboarding.

Where to Find Lift Tickets to Eldora?

Unfortunately, Eldora’s small mountain feel doesn’t translate to small mountain lift ticket prices. While lift tickets are a bit cheaper than Summit County and Vail, they are still quite pricey. Juniors and seniors do receive some deep discounts, however.

Eldora Weather Information

Eldora is the easternmost ski and snowboard area in Colorado, which means it can pick up some interesting weather patterns that miss other Colorado ski resorts. This means that when other areas see only a couple of inches of snow Eldora can sometimes receive two or three times as much powder. 300” of snow falls annually, making for plenty of powder days throughout the winter. The Front Range location does also mean that Eldora often has high winds as weather systems drop from the Rockies into the great plains. Keep an eye on the Eldora conditions report and aim for a day with low winds, the weather can get cold quickly with a big windchill.
