Brekenridge Skiing & Snowboarding
Resort Guide

Breckenridge is one of Colorado’s premier ski and snowboard destinations. The mountain is giant, the town is great, and the terrain parks are some of the best in the world. Spread across five peaks of the Ten Mile Mountain Range, Breck has an amazing 2,908 acres of skiable terrain. On these various peaks there is not only great terrain for beginners and intermediates, but also plenty of challenging and fun terrain for advanced and expert skiers. There is so much terrain at Breck that it takes days to explore the whole mountain. To make the most of all of these options plan a multi day trip and try not to spend too much time traversing from one peak to another.

Mountain Overview

Breckenridge has two main base areas that serve the five peaks, which are numbered north to south throughout the Ten Mile Range. The northern most peak , Peak 6 serves some of the best and steepest terrain at Breckenridge. This terrain is made up of steep chutes and open bowls that fall into intermediate terrain that is also accessible from the peak.

The Independence Superchair serves the lower portion of Peak 7, which is a great area for intermediate skiers and snowboarders, who will love the various naturally rolling groomed runs. The trees and glades of Ore Bucket can hold some surprisingly fun powder stashes as well. The upper portion of Peak 7 is accessed via the Imperial Express Superchair on Peak 8. A short travers leads to more steep bowls and chutes that offer some awesome wide-open skiing and snowboarding. The Peak 7 chutes typically hold powder longer than some of the other areas on the mountain. It is not recommended, however, to ride this terrain when visibility is low, whiteout conditions are common high up above the treeline.

Peak 8 has the highest elevation chairlift in the United States, one of the best terrain parks in the world, and the area’s largest base area. The Breck Connect Gondola brings skiers and snowboarders from the parking lots down in the valley up to the Peak 7 and Peak 8 base areas. From the Peak 8 base, terrain for all abilities can be accessed. The world renown Freeway and Park Lane terrain parks are located at this base as well. This is where events like the Dew Tour are held every winter, bringing the best professional skiers and snowboarders in the world. Many of these top riders call Breck home all winter long, too. Higher up on Peak 8, the 6 Chair accesses some great trees and glades. This area is awesome on powder days with poor visibility that limit upper-mountain access. The T-Bar’s advanced and expert terrain is steep and can be deep on powder days, too.

Breckenridge’s other main base area accesses Peak 9, where there is more great beginner and intermediate skiing and snowboarding. There are tons of groomed runs on this part of the mountain, making it a great place to learn. The E Chair also holds some less traveled powder stashes for advanced skiers.

Peak 10 is often one of the least crowded areas on the mountain. All of the terrain off of the Falcon Superchair is advanced. There are some fun gladed runs. The moguls and bumps on the burn will test the leg strength of even the most fit skiers and snowboarders.
