Killington Skiing & Snowboarding Resort Guide
Killington Mountain Resort is the largest ski and snowboard area in New England with a total of 1,977 skiable acres. This figure includes both Killington Mountain, and sister resort Pico Mountain. Included in this terrain is some of the best skiing and snowboarding on the East Coast, with enough variety to give everyone something to love. Killington is located close to Boston, only a three hour drive, and within five hours of several other major cities, allowing for quick access to the slopes. Off of the mountain, the town has some lively nightlife and lots of lodging available. In total, Killington is one of the best and most complete ski and snowboard resorts in Vermont.
Killington Mountain Resort is spread out across seven mountains and four different base areas; it is certainly the most spread out mountain on the East Coast. While this may make it a bit harder to navigate, the different peaks and large lift infrastructure help to spread out crowds.
Beginner skiers and snowboarders will want to start from the Snowshed base area. The Snowshed Express chair here accesses one of the several beginner learning areas in addition to the conveyor lifts at Ramshead. Ramshead Mountain has some more beginner cruising, too, in addition to some of the terrain parks. The features in this terrain park are typically the smallest on the mountain, but run the full length of the peak.
Intermediate skiers and snowboarders have a lot of options at Killington. The central Killington Peak is a good place to start, based out of the K-1 Lodge. From this summit, Skye Peak and Snowdown Mountain both have nice intermediate runs. Some of the longest intermediate runs follow along the Skye Peak Express chairlift. Ramshead Mountain has the only intermediate rated gladed trail.
The majority of Killington’s advanced and expert terrain is accessed from Killington Peak, and the short and steep Bear Mountain. There are several gladed on both of these peaks.
Killington Resort is located in the Coolidge State Forest in central Vermont. Driving, Killington is three hours from Boston, north on Interstate 89, which makes for a quick trip. Albany is a 140 minute drive, while New York City is just under five hours to the south. There are several bus services that operate from all over New England that can help skiers and snowboarders get to Killington.

Snowmaking covers 600 acres of skiable terrain, which is more acreage than some East Coast resorts have in total. Killington also has a stout grooming fleet, which grooms more than 40 miles of terrain every night.
