The Lowdown

Quick and efficient is the name of the game with the Nidecker Supermatic Bindings. Combining designs from traditional strap bindings and quick step-on bindings, Nidecker has created an entirely new design that could be a game changer when it comes to speed-entry bindings. For someone who wants the support of traditional straps but is out riding with skiers and has no time to waste, the Supermatic’s could be the answer.

Ride Impressions

The Supermatic’s are truly the most unique bindings on the market right now. They combine the best of both worlds in the way of performance and convenience, and throw in some sleek color-ways as a perk.
 
I used these bindings on the Nidecker Thruster Snowboard in a range of conditions including powder days and hard-packed conditions. While I found these bindings heavier than most, they were still very responsive and made it easy to make fast turns through trees and moguls. Overall, the bindings are quick to get on and off in prime conditions, however, some balance is needed if the ground is not flat when strapping in. A huge perk is that the hybrid design allows the straps to be adjusted manually if the slope is too steep to step in, which is a great pro if going into unknown terrain. I was concerned that powder would get in the way of being able to easily enter the bindings, but this was not a problem at all.
 
I wear the women’s Ride Hera Pro snowboard boots in size 8.5. I have been using the Medium Supermatic’s, and while they fit, I would not want my boot to be any bigger. I found that when I synched the bindings down tight, it was a very small window to slide my foot in without it getting stuck, and the straps need to be perfectly centered during the initial set-up for these bindings to work smoothly.
 
When everything is set up and ready, the Supermatic’s provide a stiff and responsive ride, and a very fast entry and exit that is perfect for keeping up with skiers, or simply just not bending over every time to strap in!

Who Is It For?

The Supermatic Bindings are ideal for an intermediate to advanced rider who is prioritizing convenience at the mountain. Once the initial set-up is done, they are quick to get on and off, and require no bending over to get them on. The straps lock in to provide support, and the fact that these are compatible with any boot is a huge perk for a speed-entry binding. They are heavier than most bindings on the market, so they wouldn’t be my top choice for a park rider, but for an intermediate to advanced rider looking for a stiff, responsive, quick entry/exit binding, the Supermatics could be the ones!
